His journey is inspired by his grandfather, Maurice Gordon Rafuse, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the summer of 1999. After having his prostate removed he underwent a year of chemotherapy treatment in addition to many medications. In 2004 he suffered from congestive heart failure and was hospitalized several times. The cancer spread and James' Papa ended up suffering from bone cancer and in April 2005 and went through extensive radiation treatments and blood transfusions until he died on August 1, 2005.
In loving memory of his Papa and to raise awareness and money to prevent prostate cancer James set out on May 1, 2013 in Price Rupert, British Columbia longboarding 9020km to Cape Spear, St. John's, Newfoundland. James' goal is to raise $25,000 for prostate cancer. To date he has raised $2,690. Please spread the word and help support James in his amazing journey across Canada.
